A strange affliction hits many folks in March of each year, especially in North Carolina. Symptoms include the sound of thumps and squeaky tennis shoes on courts across the nation and the increasing roar of the crowds in the stands or glued to big screen TVs. It’s called March Madness, and considering our Tar Heel state is saturated with highly popular ACC basketball teams, there’s no escaping it, including in our neck of the woods! So, why not embrace it?
March in Holden Beach takes on many forms, depending on the day and the tide. Days start getting longer; daffodils peek out; more fishermen line the shores and docks; and restaurants, boutiques, and beach cottages begin gearing up for the spring influx of visitors and part-time residents. Reservations are pouring in for the Days at the Docks (last weekend in April), summer vacations, and even fall getaways. Plans are well underway for family reunions and coastal adventures and we’re happy to be an integral part of it!
The lingering days of late winter spill over into early sunny spring days around here as seafood markets are teeming with new catches-of-the-day and locals are snagging those last oysters of the season from the hauls of their favorite boat captains. We’re getting our kites out of the storage room to make sure the strings are intact for those beautiful breezy afternoons along the shore. We love this time of year!
