Any season in Holden Beach is a great season, but summer is an amazing time to enjoy our little slice of island paradise. The weather is usually hot and sunny, and there are plenty of places for everyone to enjoy our eight miles of Atlantic shoreline.
Check out some of our favorites!
The Holden Beach Mailboxes
Did you know we have three special memory mailboxes right here on Holden Beach? They are located on the East End, the West End, and the most accessible on Sailfish Drive. We shared all of the information you need to find each mailbox in our We’ve Got Mail post. Have fun exploring!
Magic Mountain Water Park
We are lucky to have an awesome water park located just across the bridge from the beach, Magic Mountain Fun Park. There are three adult water slides, two kids’ water slides, an indoor arcade, and an ice cream shop located there, which makes for a fun day for the whole family.
Fishing
Though spring fishing and fall fishing are quite popular, anglers enjoy all types of fishing year-round at the beach. Surf fishing out in front of your vacation rental gives you a great excuse to relax in a beach chair, too! There are several ways you can try your luck at catching some fresh fish for dinner while you are enjoying your Holden Beach vacation.
- Surf fishing from the beach, especially the inlets
- Fishing from the Holden Beach Fishing Pier
- Inshore fishing in the Intracoastal Waterway and surrounding canals if you have a boat, or you can rent oneInshore, nearshore, and offshore fishing charter trips
Whatever you choose, we hope you have a great fish tale to share over dinner!
Surfing
Learning how to surf is a fun way to enjoy your summer days at the beach while enjoying the refreshing saltwater. Be sure to bring your board or catch a few waves on a rented board from one of our local shops.
Indoor Activities to Beat the Heat
Though we all love sunny days, everyone needs a break from the heat once in a while. Don’t worry – Holden Beach has plenty of fun indoor activities to keep everyone entertained while spending a day inside.
Some of our favorite non-beach activities are visiting a local museum or aquarium, checking out local art galleries, or shopping at local antique shops and gift shops. There is also a bowling alley and arcade, Planet Fun Center, located at 349 Whiteville Road in Shallotte, and the closest movie theatre is in Southport.
Don’t forget that some of the best indoor activities might be family game time together right in the comfort of your vacation rental!
Outdoor Dining
As you are planning what and where to eat during your beach vacation, remember that many Holden Beach restaurants offer scenic and comfortable outdoor seating areas. Ordering your food to-go is always an option so you can enjoy it from the deck of your vacation rental, or a picnic on the beach or at a local park.
Ice Cream
We can’t share summer activities recommendations without talking about ice cream! Seriously, Holden Beach has an amazing selection of local ice cream and other sweet shop options. You can find a full listing in this blog under the “Holden Beach Sweets & Treats” section. You can’t go wrong with any of these choices, and some of our ambitious visitors even try to visit all of them during their week with us at the beach!
