Donate Your Vacation Extras to A Second Helping
Is your vacation almost over? Don't worry about carting your extra food and supplies back home! Make an impact in our Holden Beach area instead by contributing those items to A Second Helping. A local volunteer organization, A Second Helping collects perishable and non-perishable canned goods and other items from vacationers as they make their way off the island.
What Happens to Our Canned Goods?
Volunteers package and transport items to One Can Ministries, Sharon United Methodist Church, and the food bank. From there, all donated items are delivered straight to those in need in local Brunswick County.
What Can I Bring?
Anything that's unopened! Many families never get fresh milk, vegetables, and even meat, so it makes a huge difference when those types of unused items are collected. Make sure all food or non-food items are in their original packaging, as A Second Helping does not accept leftover prepared dishes.
Do They Accept Other Donations?
Absolutely! A Second Helping accepts cash or checks, which are used to purchase milk, eggs, chicken, and other in-demand items. Every dollar donated will buy 5-8 pounds of food, which makes a great impact on our community. Donations can be given to any volunteer in-person or mailed to the following address:
A Second Helping 2939 Alan Trail SW Supply, NC 28462
Where Do I Go?
You can head over to the Holden Beach Chapel parking lot to drop off your goods and food, which is at the corner of Rothschild Street and Ocean Boulevard. You can also get directions to the location through Google Maps.
When Are Collection Times?
A Second Helping volunteers are at the Holden Beach Chapel parking lot every Saturday morning from 7:00 a.m. to noon. Collections begin on June 17th and last through Labor Day weekend.
A Second Helping has collected more than 170,000 pounds of food since 2005 thanks to the support of our local community and departing vacationers. Help Holden Beach and Brunswick County continue feeding the hungry by stopping by with your unused and unopened food before you check out and leave the island. We're so happy you can help us make a difference in our community during your stay!
